"In today's world, the millions of waste products that come to light every day can pave the way for new material or product designs through the advanced recycling process."
Ayşe Yılmaz, the Founder of Ottan Studio, has designed a modular installation as part of the Samsung Eco-Package project that can serve different functions and create various visual effects using TV boxes.
Ottan Studio is a social enterprise that designs and produces cyclical bio-composite materials from food and agricultural waste for the betterment of humanity and the environment.
Ayşe Yılmaz initiated her design with the question, "How can we transform cardboard into impressive surfaces and product designs in a practical and sustainable way?" She then proceeded to cut and assemble basic geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles, circles, and ellipses from cardboard, developing various combinations. Circular forms add movement to the design, while rectangles and squares allow the modules to come together with simple incisions.
Ayşe's decision not to use any adhesive or coloring in her design supports Samsung's approach of reducing carbon footprint by using 90% less ink on TV boxes.
