TANGERE is a new design brand dedicated to exquisite design and precious craftsmanship. TANGERE is revisiting luxurious travel culture embodied by Orient Express. TANGERE means to touch, to connect, to move, to impress, to reach, to guess right. The brand is aiming to bring the luxury feeling back through contemplation and joy. With keeping this in mind, we use high quality silk fabric and all the products are hand crafted in Europe by artisans.
For the launch phase, we collaborated with four renowned design studios; Bethan Laura Wood, Christian Haas, David/Nicola and Mae Engelgeer.
Bethan Laura Wood is known for her multidisciplinary practice characterized by material investigation, artisanal collaborations, as well as her signature color and pattern research. Bethan is fascinated by the connections we make with the everyday objects that surround us. For TANGERE, Bethan designed a series of 3 cushions named Swirl. Each design comes in 2 colour-ways consisting of different color combinations on front and back with contrasting thread detailing; referencing the round stained glass details of Istanbul Sirkeci Train Station, wheels motion and the swirl of a vintage locomotive head lights. Bethan creates a graphical design that explores traditional quilting and appliqué techniques evoking the glamorous heritage of the art deco heyday of the orient express with a contemporary twist. Her previous works Blooms and Bon Bon Lights as well as Playtime with its art deco style supported her to shape her designs for TANGERE.
Christian Haas made a name in the global design scene with his approach merging simplicity and elegance. His sense of aesthetics is driven by the harmony between sobriety, usefulness, emotionality, longevity and uniqueness. Christian Haas designed a set of three cushions for TANGERE named as SCOPIO. It embodies a tactile play between two dimensional and three dimensional world by questioning flatness and body. By doing so, SCOPIO dissolves the idea of front and back, up and down.
David Raffoul and Nicolas Moussallem have established a global presence since they set up their studio, david/nicolas, in Beirut in 2011. Through their interdisciplinary approach to their retro-futurist design aesthetic, they have staged various exhibitions and collaborated with established international galleries and brands. David/Nicolas designed a family of three cushions for TANGERE named as STRIPE. Their love for geometric forms, clean lines and repetitive patterns creating a meditative feeling can be found in this collection.
Mae Engelgeer’s world is where elegant interplays of signature colors and graphic patterns evolve into sophisticated compositions and textures. Where craft and fascination merge with perfection to guide exploration and create their own universe. For TANGERE, Mae Engelgeer designed a cushion which is shaped by folding a padded blanket. The art deco inspired stitching is applied on both sides of the cushion which can be used in two ways by offering two different color options. Her design named as FLEXUOUS comes in two different color combinations with serving a different color on both the front and back sides which gives the user dual color choices.
