ISTANBUL-IN BETWEEN is teaming up with the world’s leading spatial design publication FRAME for “What’s the matter? – Design for a phygital world PART II” released as a part of the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial’s Parallel Events Programme.
The panel discussions for "a Phygital Future" will take place on 26th and 27th of October at ALT Art Space in Bomontiada. The physical and digital event design will be created by “The State of Design” studio at Istanbul Bilgi University Department of Industrial Design.
A phygital future in which both physical and digital are in constant conversation, so inherently intertwined that it is difficult to distinguish one from the other. How can physical objects suggest the aesthetic of a digital future? How can digital matter inform physical design?
The speakers are focused on creating online and offline spaces, transforming digital worlds to physical worlds through different medias, seeking the potential of digital technologies, sound, spatial design and architecture. There will be immersive presentations of Alice Dunseath, Aslı Serbest, Bastiaan de Nennie, Jordan Soderbergh Mills, Osman Koç, Selçuk Artut, Simge Houg and Yoğunluk.
Students from the State of Design Studio will carry out a design process for the panel series What’s the Matter? Design for a Phygital Word – Part II. Frame commissioned the student team of Bilgi ID (301-401 class) to design, build and manage a pop-up store during “What’s the Matter? Design for a Phygital Word – Part II” panel series realised as a part of the 3rdIstanbul Design Biennial’s Parallel Events Program. The studio focuses on creativity and critical thinking. For this project, the student design team need to rethink the changing working culture and formulate an interactive spatial design based on the idea of creating a community – questioning how an event/exhibition space is related to the product and its consumers, and how the space functions within the dynamics of the Istanbul Design Biennial and any additional practical issues that need to be addressed for this assignment.
