Designer Geray Gençer and his life and work cycle in Istanbul
Dear Geray, please tell us;
Who you are
My name is Geray Gencer I am Creative Director of Egmont Publishing Istanbul office, part time Lecturer at Işık University Faculty of Fine Arts and member of the board directors of Turkish Graphic Design Association. My primary area of interest is cultural projects feeding on the mutual area of art and design. My inspiration comes a lot from out of art & design perspective. I am addicted to walking and it makes my life slower and peaceful. Whenever, on my spare times or daily routine, I prefer to walk because I am carried away with things that I feel, see, hear and smell on the streets.
Creativity is finding out your own path to survive. I thought it is not only related with outcomes of what we do, it begins with simple preferences of our daily life.
Structure your creative process
I am not a problem solver or storyteller. Basically I can define myself as a translator. I translate ideas into visual language and try to find powerful links among non-visual things and their possible visual indications.

What makes your city creative
I think routine & comfort is against to be creative, on the contrary İstanbul is a really tough place by unsteady and demanding to live daily. All boundaries and difficulties considering that city could be used as a positive stimulation to come with creative outcomes.
